Introduction
South Eastern Development Organization (SEDO) is a non-partisan, secular; non-tribalism and equal opportunity non-governmental organisation (NGO) aimed at promoting the development, mobilizing resources, and collaborates with government and other stakeholders to fasten socio-economic development of members of the society in Lindi and Mtwara regions. It originates from a number of individuals and groups with a common interest of stimulating development and therefore a brighter future for these two regions.
Vision
SEDO’s vision is to enhance socio-economic welfare of the communities in south eastern regions of Lindi and Mtwara, which for a quite long time has experienced a marginal improvement.
Mission
The Mission with SEDO is therefore to be the leading NGO with the overall objective of mobilizing and coordinating resources and initiatives from within and outside the country in order to bring about socio-economic development to the members of the community in Lindi and Mtwara regions. Specifically, the objectives for which SEDO was established include: -
- improvement of health, education and water supply services;
- fostering environmental conservation in the regions;
- assisting farmers transform traditional to modern farming techniques (e.g. commercial based);
- promoting creation of employment opportunities and hence reduce “machingas”;
- conducting and assisting other organizations in research-related activities with enormous impact on poverty reduction and socio-economic development;
- collaborating with other organizations, at both local and international levels, in the fight against poverty using local initiatives and resources as a major tool;
- advocating for more inclusion/participation of people in their development plans and in implementation of socio-economic developmental activities;
- improving entrepreneurial skills among members of communities through enhancing the understanding of global, regional, and national trends in commerce, trade, industry and marketing of primary products and small businesses; and
- acting as a rootstock of future socio-economic developmental multi-actors for the two regions.
