Strategy
In accomplishing its mission stated above, the following strategies are designed to ensure SEDO’s vision is achieved:
- Stimulating self-help spirit among members of the society in the two poorest regions in Tanzania;
- Supporting initiatives and community-based development programmes that intend to promote welfare of the ordinary people in the society;
- Mobilizing people in these two regions to participate in community-based development projects;
- In collaboration with Government agencies, development partners and other NGOs, to promote level of education and health status among members of the society;
- Collaborating with Government, development partners, NGOs, individuals and other stakeholders in fighting against HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and other communicable diseases;
- Assisting patients living with HIV/AIDS, Orphans and single mothers who live in an extreme poverty with no assistance;
- Creating awareness among people about civil and human rights, responsibilities and accountability;
- Providing civic education especially in the area of democracy and democratic processes (by encouraging effective participation in local and general elections to obtain effective representation at local and national levels);
- Encouraging members of society to engage effectively, and, where absent, initiate environmental conservation programmes to prevent the currently environmental degradation level;
- Exposing and therefore designing practical programmes to attract investors in these regions so as to increase more economic activities that will be able to provide employment opportunities to most of the youths and women;
- Mobilizing and coordinating resources and initiatives from both within and outside the country that are to be directed to help schools, health centres, local government authorities, etc in these regions;
- Mobilizing members of the society to take advantage of Government development initiatives in these regions that are geared towards economic growth and hence achieve economic development. Such initiatives include; National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP); Tanzania Development Vision 2025; National Poverty Eradication Strategy (NPES); Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS); Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); Spatial Development Initiatives (SDI) e.g. Mtwara Development Corridor (MtDC) project; Special Economic Zones (SEZ), etc; and
- dvocating for equal development opportunity, gender equality, reproductive health education, family planning, MCH services, etc.
